So I've Started a Substack...
WordPress costs too much!
So I haven’t written a thing since summer of 2024 (though I have an idea or two swirling around my head as we speak). Writing is hard and as my last blog was currently constructed, I felt incredibly boxed in, like I HAD to write about either movies, television, or music! I love writing about all of those things, I love making lists and ranking things, and I love sharing my opinions whenever I can, but sometimes I might want to write about sports, maybe about pop culture or celebrity, maybe about my favorite martinis in NYC, who knows!?
I like the idea of transitioning to Substack because it is free (WordPress cost me $130 a year, and though I actually did very decent numbers over there for how infrequently I posted, it seemed silly to continue paying yearly to only make six or seven posts and no money) and because it also feels lower stakes and may allow me to be more flexible in what I decide to write about. This Substack will hopefully be all things Mike Mekus, with check ins from me giving various takes about any and everything. I also expect it will be more stream-of-conscious than the prior blog was, much as I loved it.
So yeah. If you’re here and reading, feel free to subscribe. I’m going to spend the next few weeks coming up with a bit of a design/layout for the site and maybe allow the option for subscribers to pay a very minor minor fee to read extra musings so I can be compensated in some way for what I’ve written. I wrote a lot from 2020-2024, often an insane amount of words and spent a lot of time to make nothing for it, so if I made $50 a month writing and sharing my thoughts and feelings, cool! And if I don’t, at least, I won’t be paying $130 a year to have the option to share those thoughts and feelings.
